How to use Bluetooth dongle and disable internal Bluetooth

Setting Up and Managing Bluetooth Connections for Enhanced Performance

To mitigate issues such as signal lagging when using the computer's internal Bluetooth, it is advisable to opt for a Bluetooth dongle. Follow the steps below to effectively set up a Bluetooth dongle and disable the internal Bluetooth on your computer.

  1. Firstly, insert the Bluetooth dongle into a USB port on your computer.
  2. Accessing the Device Manager:
    • Press the Windows logo key + R simultaneously to open the run dialog box.
    • Type devmgmt.msc and select OK to launch the Device Manager.
  3. In the Device Manager, expand the section labeled Bluetooth Radios. The listing named Generic Bluetooth Radio refers to the inserted Bluetooth dongle.
  4. For the Generic Bluetooth Radio, right-click and go to Properties. You might see a status indicating 'This device cannot start'. Click OK.
  5. Individually right-click and choose Disable on all items under Bluetooth Radios to deactivate the internal Bluetooth.
  6. Upon successful deactivation, the Bluetooth icon becomes unhighlighted, indicating that all Bluetooth Radios have been disabled. 
  7. To re-enable the dongle, right-click on Generic Bluetooth Radio and select Enable.
  8. Re-pairing your device: Finally, if you are using a NeXus device, you may need to re-pair it with your computer.
    • Open the Devices and Printers folder by pressing Windows logo key + R, typing control printers, and clicking OK.
    • Remove the NeXus device by right-clicking it and selecting Remove device. Then, click Add a device and select your NeXus device from the list. Ensure the device is turned on for it to be discoverable.
    • Input the last 4 digits of the serial number when prompted for a passcode to complete the pairing process.
